The Future is African & Female! Give for HER - Emmanuella

My Story of Inspiration

“Jack of all trades, Master of none” is a saying that resonated so much with me during and after my undergraduate studies."

I had so many fields of interest in the tech industry. Before my final year in school, I was sure I wanted to be a front-end web developer. But by the time I was graduating, I had switched entirely to machine learning and data science after which I landed a job as a mobile applications developer. For as long as I could remember, I was torn between being a software developer and a machine learning engineer. While being both of these things is totally possible, I was at the beginning of my career and needed to make a decision about which of the two domains to further my education in.

I am so grateful I found Yielding Accomplished African Women's Women In Machine Learning Conference at the time I did. Attending the conference for me meant more than just gaining training in machine learning and the opportunity to network. The conference gave me the opportunity to make a decision about my career and life in general. Out of that conference, I found the courage, motivation, and strength to decide that being a Machine Learning Engineer and Data Scientist is really what I wanted.

Yielding Accomplished African Women gave me the push I needed at the right time in my career to go down the Machine Learning path. The success stories of the women like me who had found their standing in the machine learning industry pushed me to apply for the master’s degree in Applied Machine Learning I am currently pursuing. I would forever be grateful for that push. - Emmanuella Ametsi
